Recess 

-Different schools will have different playground equipment, but this page will show you some of the popular playground games that can be played at most schools.  Just click on the underlined title to get to the video which will explain how to play the games and what set up is needed.  

 4 Square
4 Square is a fast paced game that teaches and requires the players to have quick reflexes, great hand-eye coordination, and have the ability to quickly adapt. This is a game that involves 4 players to participate. This is a fun, competitive game that is great for students of all ages. It is easy to learn, easy to set-up, and easy to play!
 Materials Needed
-Red playground ball
-4 Square marked area
 Hop Scotch

 

Hopscotch is the most classic game on the playground! This game teaches and requires body control, balance, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and stamina if you want to be successful. This is a great game that can be played with multiple players or can be played alone.

 Materials Needed
-Some type of marking tool (stone, wood chip, bean bag)
H.O.R.S.E.

H.O.R.S.E. is a fun, creative basketball based shooting game that can be played with 2 or more players. This is a great game to be played during a basketball unit or during recess. In H.O.R.S.E., the object is to NOT accrue the five letters, H-O-R-S-E. Often, the shots taken in H.O.R.S.E. are trick shots and shots designed to make the other players miss.

 Knockout

Knockout is a basketball based game that requires quickness, a good shot, and being able to keep calm under pressure. This game is perfect for small groups or for large crowds. The set up for this game is easy, and the excitement and fun you will have when you play will be enormous! This is a great game to be played during recess or as part of a basketball unit.

Mississippi Tag

 

Mississippi Tag is a game that teaches and requires agility, quickness, upper body strength, flexibility and great cardiovascular endurance! This is a great recess game that is fun while at the same time promotes exercise and fitness! 

 Materials Needed
-Even/parallel bars 
 Swings

 

Most all playgrounds have swings for the children to use.  Here we explain how to and how not to use the swings to ensure the safety of everyone.

 Tetherball

 

Tetherball is a two player game that helps improve hand-eye coordination as well as overall response time. This a quick, two player game where the object of the game is to get the tetherball to wrap around the pole and "tether".

 Materials Needed
Tetherball Court with ball
 Wall Ball

Wall Ball is a 2 player game that requires agility, hand-eye coordination, lateral movement,  and strategy to succeed. This game is a very quick game that can be finished in seconds or might take a couple of minutes to complete. All that is needed is a playground ball and a flat wall.
